"Frosty Rebellion" is a humorous retro shooter with a nostalgic vibe and a frosty Canadian twist! Step into the boots of a daring hero traversing a snow-covered land, filled with quirky NPCs and sinister snowmen. Your ultimate mission? End the tyranny of the evil Snowman King by stealing his infamous carrot nose!

Armed with only three basic actions (move forward, move backward, interact/shoot), and featuring 2D sprites in a 3D world, this game combines simplicity with fast-paced fun, all wrapped in a retro-inspired aesthetic reminiscent of classic games like Doom.

Theme Integration:

The Jam’s theme, "Retro," is deeply woven into the core of Frosty Rebellion through:

- Graphics: A blend of 2D sprites and 3D environments inspired by the pixelated charm of retro classics.

- Gameplay: Limited controls and straightforward mechanics that evoke the simplicity of old-school shooters.

- Humor & Storytelling: Witty NPC dialogues and a playful narrative—reminiscent of the carefree tone in vintage games.

 - Audio Design: Minimalistic sound effects and retro-inspired audio tracks bring an authentic throwback experience.

Development Notes and Gratitude:

Frosty Rebellion was created for the MicroJam 027 as a love letter to retro games. We aimed to deliver a short but memorable experience that captures the charm of the classics while offering a touch of absurd humor and nostalgic gameplay.

A big thanks to my friends supporting me with amazing artwork, the organizers, the amazing community, and everyone who plays and shares their feedback. Your support means the world!

I mean... Even Doom had a button to switch between turning and sidestepping, didn't it? (I think it was Shift?)

Trivia: In fact, "strafe-running" is actually used for solving a few Secrets such as the secret exit in E3M6, as Doomguy actually moves a tiny bit faster diagonally than forwards and exploiting this is necessary to "fall in style" far enough to reach :P
